Special English Programme for 2009-10

FROM THE HEART

What is this programme?
It is a writing programme initiated by the principal.

Why is it called 'From the Heart'?
The principal and teachers will speak to students every Thursday. They will tell a story or share with students a personal experience. It is always a memorable event that has touched them, so the programme is called"From the Heart". The story will be uploaded to the school homepage so that students who missed the assembly can read it for themselves.

Where does the writing part come in?
After listening to the principal's and teachers' story, students (or even teachers) may have some thoughts or feelings about the topic, which they may wish to share with others. They may put these in writing, so their essays are also"From the Heart."
Who will read the students' essays?
The principal andf teachers will personally read and mark all the essays. Each time they will select the best 10.
Then what?
Then the essays will be displayed in the main entrance lobby that other students can read them.

Is there a limit to the number of words to write?
No. There is absolutely no limit.

How can students submit their essays?
All essays are to be submitted at the latest by the following Thursday. Students may choose to submit hard or soft copies. Emails are most welcome. Of course they need to write their name, class and class number clearly each time.

Any prizes?
The best 10 essays each week will receive recognition, as they will be on display for the whole school to read. At the end of the school year, the principal's stories and the students' essays will be published in a booklet. The booklet will be the best prize for students whose essays have been selected for publication.
